Hello Everyone,
April 1st to the 7th! For p day last week we went on a hike with the other elders to go see a waterfall and the waterfall was cool except there is no water because it's the dry season. We ate a buffet lunch together and went home. That evening we tried to visit a bunch of people and they weren't all there, but there was an RC and she was doing okay. After that we tried to find our family again because we figured out that the owner of their previous apartment might know where they had moved to but it turns out he doesn't know anything so they're officially just gone. There's no way we can contact them unless they come to church.
Tuesday we studied in the morning, had district meeting and then we went and worked the rest of the afternoon. We met with a member who gave us a referral and we taught another way fire investigator before English class. That was kind of all of that day, not very much happened.
On Wednesday, we went inviting in the morning and found some cool people. We found out that the member we were going to visit shortly, lived clear across town, which we hadn't expected. So we biked like 10 kilometers in a race against time to get to his place. He gave us some lunch and a ton of last active people referrals that we are going to start working with. After that we went to different strong member's house who also fed us lunch and give us some referrals for less active people to work with which is way good cause we were kind of running out of ideas of people to work with. Now we've got some ideas. We rushed back to the church to meet with the baptist piano player because he wanted to check out our hymn books so that he can "enlarge his library." It's actually really funny. We talked with him and he wasn't interested at all in what we had to say about the church, but he wanted to look at our hymn books and so we let him do that. Then we got to the house and did our studies. By the time we got there we had done about 40 kilometers of biking. I think that is where I got this little cold that I've got. I think I inhaled a bunch of dust on that bike ride because after Wednesday afternoon I got really sick and then my voice just got way, way bad. We visited this one lady whose sister is a strong member in Asoke, but she's not really interested. We also met a security guard.
Then we got home and got ready for our switch. I was with the Elder Julander and this is his final switch off ever. He's going to die in this next week and he is really good missionary. We went inviting in the morning, trying to find this guy named Bert. We found a guy named Bert, but he was from the Netherlands. He was not Thai and so we couldn't teach him what we wanted to teach him. After Bert we went inviting and found some really cool people. We met with an RC who had gone to bed at about four in the morning the previous night (we didn't know that). We called her and knocked on her door and she didn't answer. We were sitting outside her place, talking and wondering what we should do. Then she came out and was like, "I was sitting in bed and you guys woke me up with the phone and then I heard voices outside and I was like, well who is that?" So she came outside and found us. It was really funny. The referral that she had planned to give us... they're on bad terms. And so we didn't teach that referral. The other thing that was funny about that is she said that when she went to sleep, she said that she prayed that there would be something that would help make her day better and she woke up and there we were. So she laughed about that. We left and had lunch with a strong member and it was really good. Then we met with an RC who kind of fell off the face of the earth the last little bit, but he's doing way better now that we've talked to him. His work is pretty intense right now. After that we came home, did our studies and then we were going to visit a different investigator, but we had to work out things with Elder Julnader's flight home. Because Songkran, the super big water festival, is the same week as transfers, like literally the exact same days and so just with this massive national festival, transportation was going to be rough and so it took a while to work that out. Then we had a long lesson/meeting with some strong members and they're way good. We also met with an RC, had some dinner, switch off review and that was the day.
Friday we had some errands to run in the morning. We had to go to the hospital in the morning and then we checked out bus tickets and all this other stuff. We got some personal study in at a mall, at a Starbucks where we met this lady who had grown up in Salt Lake, but is very less active now. We had some lunch and we visited some investigators that we gave to the sisters. Then we came home studied a little bit more and then met with a member who is literally like the Joseph Smith of Thailand. His is a very long story, but in short he worked as an accountant and was very good at it. After he joined the church he learned all he could about the church. He was eventually hired by the church, became a church employee and was influential in making Bangkok explode in wards and branches. He was influential and opening up Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia to the preaching of the Gospel and just a bunch of stuff. He has given his entire life to the church. Really, really good. After that we went and visited a new investigator that Elder Julander and I had found the previous day and he's way cool. He also knows a member of the church, although he didn't know they are a member. That's kind of funny. Then we had some inviting time at a mall and some dinner. Friday was a long day because I just could not speak. My throat was was killing me.
Saturday I switched off with Elder Rogers. We got up that morning, got ready and headed over to our English class. There were four little Thai girls. It was pretty empty. We had some lunch and after that visited a less active lady. She's way less active, forgotten everything. It took forever to get home from there because it was 15 kilometer bike ride. Then we met with this other investigator whom we dropped because he really was not doing anything. We went inviting and found some cool people, which was really fun. After that we visited a less active guy who is way, way good. He says he wants to serve a mission but he's just not doing anything that will help him do that. We switched back off and then had a fire correlation meeting. That night we taught an investigator for the last appointment of the night.
Sunday rolled around and we had four investigators show up at church, which was really good because for the past two weeks we've had no one come. It's way fun! After that we had some lunch, went inviting in a mall for a long time, tried to visit an RC and her sister but they weren't available then. So we ended up inviting for like three hours at this mall. Then we went to a member's house and we hadn't planned on eating dinner together, but they fed us dinner. I guess that's what happens when you make appointments in the evening with members. We got to know them a little bit more. And also a possible referral The problem is in about a month and a half she goes back to a place where there's no church . So we don't know if we baptize this person, she may or may not ever come. We don't know. We visited a less active family and then came home, did our studies and got some stuff ready for Monday.
The Spiritual Thought for this week comes from a quote from Elder Joseph B Wirthlin, "This is a wonderful feeling—to know that the Lord trusts and loves you enough to want to use you in blessing the lives of others. Brothers and sisters, your Heavenly Father wants to use you for the same purpose. As you magnify your callings and go about doing good, I promise you the Lord will shower upon your heads blessings of satisfaction and joy so great that you will not have room enough to receive them." I've had a lot of thoughts recently just about how important it is for each individual member to be individually righteous because the strength of this church is determined by the individual righteousness of each individual person. I just can't emphasize enough how important it is that each of us are just obedient and do what we're supposed to do.
