Hello Everyone!
Last Monday for p day we got up, went running, went to the email place, did a bunch of emails for awhile, got back, took a shower and then we got haircuts at our investigator's house. He's way good. We've been told he's the best in Thailand and I believe it. He did a way good job! Then we went to Doi Suthep. It's a mountain with a Buddhist temple at the top that is way cool, and has a lot of stuff that you can buy. It was fun just to be up there on top of the world.
Tuesday we taught an investigator first thing in the morning and then had English planning. We tried to find some other investigators but didn't find them. We did our studies and went to district meeting and had lunch with a return missionary who fed us some Mexican food and it was really good. Then we met this way cool guy from Taiwan. He's Thai, but he was a foreign exchange student in Taiwan and he's going to go to Tennessee this next month. He's a really cool investigator. Then we had a missed appointment before English class and then a fun English class.
On Wednesday I had a switch off with Elder Rogers, which meant I was in the south of Chiang Mai, not in our normal area. We had cinnamon rolls as we planned and then we did our studies. We visited an RC named Anorn who recently just got the gift of the holy ghost. He's doing pretty good. We had some lunch and then we visited an investigator named Nang. After talking to him for a bit, he got up on his motorcycle and left cause he had to do some errands. Then we taught this guy name Sotasak and he just kind of complained about his health the whole time. We found this way cool kid at his school named Nektai and we taught him at school with a bunch of his friends. Then we came home, visited a couple RCs and did some finding that night. It was really fun. Then we had a sleepover at their house and that was very fun.
The next morning we got up bright and early to head back to our area. When we got back we invited, did some studies, visited an RC, ate some way good Khao Soi at an average Thai place, did our weekly planning, visited a couple more RC's and kind of just ran around town like crazy people trying to contact a bunch of people. At the end of the night we had a fantastic lesson with this couple. We invited this member family to come and help us teach and it was way, way good because they both have young children. We all just sat in their house and the member couple just offered a lot of encouragement to the investigators that we were teaching. So it was really awesome. We left and got to the airport right on time except the plane was late so we just sat in the airport for like an hour and a half while we waited to fly to Bangkok for a switch off. We flew over and we got to Bangkok about 1:30 am, fell asleep, and then we're up again at 6:30 am to do our switch off in Asoke which was way fun.
I switched off with Elder Jorgensen. We were in the same room in the MTC and we've kind of been buddies ever since. It as a way fun day. We started out of the day inviting a bunch of people and just talking with everyone on the streets. We had some lunch at a member's place and she gave us some way good Massaman, it's a kind of curry and it's way good. Then we had our studies, met a dude named Simon, taught him, met another dude whose name I don't remember but we talked this kid for like an hour and a half because he had a lot of questions about the Book of Mormon and just didn't understand why it is so important. We answered a lot of questions and talked for a long time. We finished the day with some inviting and some Taco Bell because there's only one Taco Bell in all of Thailand and it's in Asoke. And then we got on the bus back to Chiang Mai.
Saturday was another crazy day because we spend the entire day pretty much preparing for our baptism that evening. Pohn was interviewed and passed his interview that morning. We got some lunch, did our studies, did some inviting and set up the program. And that was pretty much the whole day.
Sunday was really good because Pohn was then confirmed! After church we came home and studied. It was fast Sunday. So as we were studying President Heng called us and asked us if we would go to the hospital with him to deliver the sacrament to an older lady that's been bedridden for about three weeks now. We went and took it there and talked to her nonmember family and they were really awesome. Then we came home, we got some food at the church from a member who is way nice, finished our studies, did some finding, ran around town, invited our couple to a family home evening that happened on Monday. And then we tried to find our other investigator. Funny moment from today... we find this dude at his house and we say, pĕn xỳāngrị b̂āng, which is basically just how are you? And he answered with one word Meā, which means drunk. So that was just fantastic. And that was end of our Sunday.
My spiritual thought this week comes from talk in October, 2004 from Carl B Pratt. And his talk is entitled The Blessings of a Proper Fast. He says there's three aspects to a proper fast and that's abstaining from food and drink for two consecutive meals, or in other words, 24 hours, attending fast and testimony meeting and giving a generous fast offering. And it's just been a personal testimony to me as we, as I've done these three things on my mission that fasting really does work and it really does provide a great amount of spiritual strength if you do it correctly. I love the verses in Isaiah that talk about fasting.
Isaiah 58:6. Is this not the fast that I have chosen? To loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, that ye break every yoke?
I know that when we fast properly, we can get that true strength that comes from fasting. I know, that Christ is the head of this work!
