Dear Family and Friends, Another installment in Ethan's mission life in Thailand. :)
Hello Everybody!
Monday morning for p-day was really fun! We went to this mountain called Phu Chi Fa, which means 'mountain touches the sky' in Thai and we saw the sunrise. It was way, way pretty, it's a really cool mountain that overlooks other mountains and the rest of the country of Lao. After the sunrise morning hike we went and visited a couple of temples and got some way cool pictures and enjoyed an evening meal with the Ching Rai district. It was really fun. Then our switch off began. I was with Elder Vendesi and he is a fantastic missionary. We went and visited an older lady that had been taught in the past and now she wants to learn some more. She's very talkative and we finally got out of there, eventually. :) Anyways, after that we did some inviting and taught another kid that is a way, way cute little guy.
On Tuesday, we started the day with some service in the morning with a member there that doesn't take care of his yard. And so we took care of that with him. And then we had district council and then after that we kind of just did a lot of inviting because the appointments they had set all fell through and there was a bunch of drama in the middle of that with an emergency transfer that we had to deal with. And so we didn't really get the time that we wanted to meet those people. So we did a lot of inviting and then we got on a bus and came home. Good times.
Wednesday was really fun despite some not so good planning and being out of our area for about two days we still found three new investigators, which was really fun. They were all PIs (potential investigators) from previous days. Also we visited an RC the morning, served her sister and met with another RC. Then we had our studies and went to the nearby college and met a lot of people. In the evening we taught our dater, Cohn, and he's way cool. He's started reading the book of Mormon now and that was a problem that he had earlier when he was learning, but now he's doing it all. So he's way good!
Thursday morning we went to the train station to buy tickets so we could organize our switch off with Lamphun. Then it turned out we didn't even need to get the tickets and so it was kind of just a lot of waiting at the train station for no reason. Then we visited an RC and she's doing, way good. She kind of has the same old problems of not being able to come to church because her kids are loud and she feels embarrassed to bring him to church. After that we had some planning, phone call time and our studies. Then that night was really fun because we went and taught this investigator we found on a switch off who's doing way good! We did a lot of teaching in the evening, followed by some dinner, which was way fun.
Friday I was in Lamphun with President Pool. His name is Elder Pool, but he's the president of the Lamphun branch and he is doing way good. He's a good mission buddy of mine that I've had the privilege of the switching off with four times now. He's way awesome. In the morning we had some errands to run because he's the branch president and then we had a baptismal interview that he did. After that we had some time for finding and we kind of taught this other lady and did our studies. Then we had this way big English inviting deal that was way crazy where we just went to a local high school and invited a lot of people to go to English class and it was really fun actually. After that we had a couple appointments that fell through and we got some good dinner. We taught a family that will not be learning anymore, sadly, and then met with an LA that, in the future, will hopefully be a good member of the high priests quorum that will help build this branch. It was a pretty good day despite feeling pretty sick all day long. Also, I ran over a snake that day and that was really scary because it was REALLY big.
On Saturday we got back and we met this dude named, Yai. He's got two kids that are named Lion and Mammoth. They're way, way cute and we're going to hopefully help him be baptized. He's also a really good hair cutter. Then we came back to the Church and met an RC and a less active member who we want to be more active. We had another appointment with an investigator that took a very, very, very long time because he had so many questions, just endless questions. Then after that we did our studies, had some more appointments in the evening, followed by a correlation meeting and food, dinner, good stuff.
Sunday, February 17th, we went to church and then we did our studies. We taught this investigator we have named Pha and she's pretty cool. Then we had some time to invite in the neighborhood and found another cool dude. Then we ran over to a member's house where we thought we would have dinner with some investigators but there was a huge miscommunication and the member thought it was going to be the next day and the investigators all didn't know that it was happening. It ended up with the member making some food for us real quick cause she felt bad for us, even though we said don't make food. But she still made it and made us eat it. She told us her conversion story and that was one of the coolest hours of my mission. I loved listening to her talk about the reasons that she joined the church and how strong she is, even though her other Christian church came after her and tried to make her go back to the old one but she still stayed here. It was way cool.
2 Nephi 32:4
4 Wherefore, now after I have spoken these words, if ye cannot understand them it will be because ye ask not, neither do ye knock; wherefore, ye are not brought into the light, but must perish in the dark.
Recently I read a wayyyy good BYU speech about revelation. How to better receive and act on it. And one of the points the speaker made was the importance of asking specific questions. Otherwise we cannot get a specific answer! So as we seek specific answers to our specific circumstances we can get specific answers to our problems. The Lord wants to help us but like anyone else, we need to have a working relationship with him in order to work together well. I love the work! And I love Him who is at the head!!
