Hello everybody, this week was another fun one here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. On Monday we headed over to Lamphun so we can go over and ride the elephants there, and that ended up being a very fun day. We got a lot of pictures and then Elder Chin and I went to visit an old family friend of his that actually lives near Chiang Mai, so we biked there and then had a sprint all the way back to our family home evening that night that we spent with an investigator and their family and it was fantastic. A lot of fun, a lot of food, and a lot of strong members that roast each other on different doctrines of the Gospel. So it was really funny. On Tuesday we got up and headed right over to Pawsoul, our super old investigator. He's doing really good. He just needs to remember the things that we teach is the main problem.
After that we had some quick study time and then we invited and got to teach some other investigators which was also followed by some additional meeting and studies and English class and that was pretty much the day, it was not too bad. On Wednesday we've had a switch off and so Tuesday night I biked home with Elder Morgan and that day was also a very fun. We spend the morning inviting and looking for some new investigators. Unfortunately we didn't find anyone super interested, but we did find some PIs and a couple, and one new investigator, so it was great for them. On our way back to go get some lunch, Uh, just so happened that Elder Morgan, his bike kind of exploded because the rear derailleur on his bike totally got destroyed. So we spent the next three hours buying a new part and fixing it ourselves because we didn't want to pay to fix it.
So that was an excellent switch off opportunity. We're supposed to participate in every aspect of missionary work and we certainly did that, we got to fix a bike. After that we got some personal study in and we booked it over to Man-to, which is a college nearby here and there we met an RC and taught her friend and then taught English to all of her friends and had some good dinner. It was really fun. Then a 13 kilometer bike ride back into the city so we could finish our switch off. Boy, that was fun. The next day was a Thursday and on that day we tried to go and visit some investigators that were found the previous day, but they were not there, unfortunately. After that I got to interview a lady for baptism, who will be baptized in Phitsanulok and she is really good! I was impressed with the work that a missionaries do down there. One of my good friends, Elder Pool is down there. He's way good. Then we taught an investigator who we're worried is gonna not want to learn anymore. That was kind of sad. Anyways, then we taught a couple of investigators, had some studies, dinner and then another baptism interview from the elders in Phitsanulok. They're doing really good work, done there, Elder Chin talked to them. Then we finished out the day with dinner at a member's house, which was fantastic. Such good food and a lot of goodness.
Friday was my switch off with Elder McCown, one of my previous companions. He is super fun. It's been a long time since we've been together. Anyways, so in the morning we went and right away we tried to go in and teach a dude, but he was not there so we couldn't teach him. Then we just kind of went out and invited and we talked to Getesak, who is going to be baptized here soon. He's fantastic. After teaching him, we went and met with an LA who, we thought was an investigator because we met him on the street, but now it turns out he's very deeply LA and he doesn't remember anything. After that we had a couple of other investigators, came back and studied, got some dinner, visited another fantastic LA family that kind of just stopped doing the little things.
Then I called another interviewee in Phitsanulok and she's doing so good. Then we finished off the night at a kid named Pon, his house, and he is super cool. Tons of questions, wants to learn everything. We taught about resurrection and he was away impressed he was super funny. And then we found out that a couple we are teaching who's problem is they are not married legally got some big documents so they can be married legally here soon so they can baptized. Happy Day! Saturday, we invited in the morning, did some studies, taught an investigator, interviews with President, lunch, teaching more investigators. Super Fun. Then planning.
We also had a fire lesson with an investigator family and a member and some other stuff. And we close out the night with a fantastic video lesson with an RC and his wife. Early in the morning on Sunday as usual we went and picked up Pas-ow and biked with him to church. He is super old and fantastic. We're so happy he can bike to church and then we got to church and had church for two hours, which is really, really nice and we got some lunch, took Pas-ow back home, kinda just escorted him home.Then we visited another investigator and brought him to church. Unfortunately, he didn't get there on time, but he did come and so that's the important bit. Then we planned for the rest of the day, did our studies, had a couple teaching appointments with different investigators and then we finally got home and had some dinner. All in all, that was a really good week.
A very significant principle i have learned on my mission is of sacrifice. "Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of Heaven." If we want to increase our faith, one of the best ways is through sacrifice. We put aside time, money, effort and many other things to more fully follow Jesus Christ. And i love this scripture.
2 Ne 25:29
29 And now behold, I say unto you that the right way is to believe in Christ, and deny him not; and Christ is the Holy One of Israel; wherefore ye must bow down before him, and worship him with all your might, mind, and strength, and your whole soul; and if ye do this ye shall in nowise be cast out.
What are we willing to give? Faith is something that will change us. If we want to have more faith, we cannot do it being comfortable. We've gotta change, and that will usually include sacrifice. More often than that, pride will be a crucial part of it. Pride, and fear, are things we should sacrifice regularly. When we put behind us things of the world, and put the gospel in our sights, everything becomes clearer and better.
I have learned that faith in Christ means I need to change. That I am no longer a normal 20 year old bumbling along the path of life, but now I am His agent. And I do what He says because I know it begets real power and blessings for me and those around me. He is at the head of His work! And I love Him.
