Hello everybody!
This week was another busy one. Also, MLC was this week, which made things way fun because that means all the zone leaders sleep over with us and the assistants. Its way fun.
Monday wasn't too crazy, we just had a normal pday. We got Thai drivers licenses for Elder Thornock, and Elder Rosenvall. That was pretty much the whole morning. Then we had plans to go and play frisbee, but those were cancelled because it rained. Which was fun. So Elder Thornock and I ended up walking about in the downtown area, in Chinatown looking for some cool stuff to buy, but we didn't find anything we wanted to pay for haha. After that, we had a fun little FHE with a less active who made some waaaay good food for us.
Tuesday was pretty unexciting. We just had studies in the morning, and then district meeting in the late morning. Then we (the office elders) had lunch with the sister training leaders before we headed off to our next appt. Let me tell ya, we've got such a fire district here in Asoke. It's so awesome. Anyways, then we had a fun meeting with this LA named อาคม and he is so nice. Has a super pure desire to be a stronger member, he's just way quiet, and he doesn't seem to put his priorities straight. So that seems to be a problem. We will help him though, and baptize his friends. After that, we had English class, and that was just as fun as ever. It was great stuff.
Wednesday, was MLC! It's like a mini zone conference for all the zone leaders and the sister training leaders. It's way fun because the night before was a party haha. And we were up at the crack of dawn playing basketball as well, which was way fun. Anyways, so we studied there in the morning, and then got some lunch for the people there, and all that good office elder stuff. In the afternoon, we had some errands to run, and a meeting with president that ended up being put off, and so we tried to track down a refferal from salt lake, and then got stuck in traffic, and then the RC we wanted to meet with ผิดนัดed on us. But we did talk with this kid outside the church playing basketball and taught him. It was way cool. Then that night we met with president, and set some goals for the office and stuff like that.
Thursday, we went and started the day with some studies. Good stuff, studies are. After that, we headed over to lunch, and then continued the morning with some weekly planning. Then we met with this really nice LA lady who has been offended in the past, and that's the main reason she has stopped coming to church... :( anyways, she wanted us to talk to everyone in her neighborhood, and so she made us pass out inviting cards with everybody. The problem is, she lives in a way nice neighborhood where lots of people aren't Thai... So she tried talking with Korean people and some Japanese people who already spoke fluent English and zero Thai, and we were like, yeah sorry, you can come practice your English here for free! Haha. Anyways, then she got us some good food, and we shared a thought, and tried to visit her nonmember family members, but we ran out of time because she really talks your ear off. Then we had a great lesson with a previously dropped investigator. And we might have to drop him again... :( Great guy though. Super nice.
Friday, we set out first thing to go and find this Salt Lake referral. We tried to yesterday, but we forgot to bring the Book of Mormon that he had requested... oops. Anyways, so we are on the way there, and finally gets ahold of us, and turns out he wasn't even at his address, (this kid is like 15 by the way, and a monk as well) which was a Buddhist temple, and we tried to rearrange a different time to meet, and then was like never mind don't worry about it, and left the conversation. So that was stinky. We came back to the office, and we had lunch after that. Then studies, and then finished weekly planning. After that, we went to invite in a part of town that missionaries don't really go to. No luck though. After that, we went and had dinner, and were late to correlation because our cards for the subway ran out of money and had to wait for a way long time in line to get them filled again. After that, I got to give a blessing of healing to a sister who needed to go to the hospital. Those are always powerful experiences. Then I got to help teach the family of Elder Butnon, who is not members over the phone. It was pretty cool.
Saturday, we spent a large part of the morning inviting. (After we had studied) We found some people interested in learning English, but not in Christ... :( then we did some office work in the afternoon, grabbed some ice cream while we made some calls, and then we went and had a fun little activity with ward missionaries and other RMs in the ward. After that, we began our switchoff, and I was with Elder Pool in his area. We spent the rest of the night at an LAs house figuring out some problems, and the sister training leaders were there too. Cool stuff.
Sunday was way fun. We brought an international investigator to the church and handed him off to the sisters, and went to the first part of sacrament meeting there. It was pretty cool. Passing the sacrament is pretty good stuff. After that, we had studies, and some time for inviting, and that was way fun. After that, we went to the Thai ward for the whole time, and then had our normal stuff the ward, and a baptism!!! So fire. After that, we headed over to the college nearby and invited for a bit, and then had dinner with the Johsons, and the assistants and us did some office work until the wee hours of the night and then it was pday!!
Spiritual thought for this week comes from my studies (per the usual)
I love Alma chapter 5. It is so solid. What a great chapter to read if you want to experience a change of heart. He poses so many that really make me think about my own conversion, and how I can be better. I love this verse.
26 And now behold, I say unto you, my brethren, if ye have experienced a achange of heart, and if ye have felt to sing the bsong of redeeming love, I would ask, ccan ye feel so now?
And this quote from Elder Cook. He really puts a good spin on why we go to church, and remain faithful. It needs to be a NEED for us.
C. S. Lewis, the striving, pragmatic Christian writer, poignantly framed the issue. He asserted that Christianity tells people to repent and promises them forgiveness; but until people know and feel they need forgiveness, Christianity does not speak to them. He stated, “When you know you are sick, you will listen to the doctor.”
I know the Savior lives, and loves us. And we need to decide all of us, within ourselves if this is something that is truly valuable to us. Because it's literally priceless.
