Hi Everyone,
Last week was the Thai New Year national celebration, called Songkran. To celebrate the whole country pretty much has a massive water fight. :) The missionaries had pday on Monday and Friday that week and then no pday the following week. So Ethan wrote two letters this week. I knew he would be getting his drivers license and asked if he was worried about passing the test and he told me that in Thailand it doesn't take much to get a license. He seems to enjoy being behind the wheel of a car again. Thanks for supporting and loving him! -Lisa

This week has been another week for the books. I mean it's not every week that you get 2 pdays in a week right?? So fun.
Anyways, on Monday we spent the morning getting my Thai drivers license. That took all of forever. It certainly ate up the morning, we are there from like 9-12/1ish. It took forever. But I passed all the special tests so we are good! I am a legally licensed this driver haha. At the end they played this video full of car crashes and people dying. I guess that was to scare everyone into being good drivers. I don't know that it works all that well.... Anyways, after that, we went out to eat with an RC here in Asoke. We ate at a market that a member from Bangkhen (my greenie area) works at. So we went in and said hi. Aaaaand she didn't remember me. But her daughter did. That's what you get when you can't speak the language I guess haha. After that, we finished the day with some good ol office work. Fun times.
Tuesday, we did some personal study in the morning. Then we went hunting for some PIs we met earlier in the week to go and teach them. Sad day though, they did not have a guy at home, so we couldn't go in and teach them. We ended up setting a return appointment where we would bring a member along for the ride, but fast forward to the end of the week, that appt fell through. Sad day. After that we grabbed some lunch, and then did some office work, which included preparing a zone conference presentation. That took alot of work. After that, we had English meeting, and then we finished some studies, and then We had some solid time for inviting. Sad day though, no new investigators from that... Anyways then we had English class which was pretty fun stuff, per the usual.
Wednesday, we started out with personal study so we would be sure to get it in the day and not miss it. Then we tried to have a group call with an investigator and a member to teach a lesson, but that did not end up happening. Sad day. The investigator woke up late and could not call with us. We will get him next time though. After that, we helped the sisters and other elders send some postcards off with news that the prophet is coming. So that was way fun. Then we had some time for office work, and a lot of calls to make, and then some good ol quality time to go and visit a member and visit the LAs in near her house. It was way fun. She actually ended up buying dinner for us as well. Fun times.
Thursday, we when to the office, and studied, and had some errands. Then we tried to visit some people that may or not be refugees.. that was fun, neither of them speak very much Thai, and the English has a heavy accent, But once again, we had no guys at home, so we couldn't go in to teach. Another return appointment. Fun times. After that we video called another lady we are teaching and she is doing so good! She loved general conference, and said a prayer out loud with us for the first time! So fire. After that, we had some lunch, some time for inviting for a bit, and then we practiced our zone conference training for Saturday. and then calls and dinner and all that good stuff. Then we had some time to finish the day at a park and go invite peeps. It was fun. We met a guy who told us that he doesn't believe in a God, because you cant prove there is one. I wanted to share Alma 30:44 or something like that because I know there is! He lives! Instead, we said that we know a man who has seen God, and then invited him to go to the evening with the prophet on the 20th.
Friday, we played สงกรานต์!!!!!!!!! It was soooooo much fun!! So wet, so much water. For those who are unfamiliar with it, its basically a huge city wide water fight! and it is so fire! So much fun. Go look it up on youtube for more details. It was soo much fun. That was pretty much the day. Lots of water, lots of sun, and lots of water guns. It was so awesome.
Saturday, we had zone conference. It was so fire as usual. President Johnson is so awesome. We talked about obedience, and how to be better missionaries. The APs trained on commitments, us on the area book planner app for the phones, and the ZL/STL training on the BoM, and how to better use it in teaching. It was way fire. Sorry, not much to report on the last couple of days, basically a water fight all Friday, and a fun zone conference Saturday with pizza and ice cream. Pretty good times.
Sunday was fun too. We got out the door first thing for the international ward sacrament meeting. It's sooo different, prayers, and talks and hymns all in English?? Weird stuff. For the second hour, we taught this one lady who lives way North of us, but her friend from New York who was visiting brought her to the church (she speaks fluent English so it was no problem) and we sat and talked with her about the church and why its important and all that stuff. Then we had a good priesthood meeting talking about general conference. After that, we weren't planning on going to the Thai ward sacrament meeting because we had no investigators confirmed to go, but we got pulled in anyway because they needed help passing the sacrament. After that, we went home and ate some food, had studies, and then we had some great interviews with President Johnson. He is so awesome. I am so grateful to be able to serve under him.
Spiritual thought this week comes from PMG and my studies this week. Elder Oaks has said:
“None of us should be like the fisherman who thinks he has been fishing all day when in reality he has spent most of his time getting to and from the water, eating lunch, and fussing with his equipment. Fishing success is related to how long you have your line in the water, not to how long you are away from the apartment. Some fishermen are away from home for twelve hours and have their line in the water for ten hours. Other fishermen are away from home for twelve hours and have their line in the water for only two hours. This last type may wonder why they do not have the same success as others.
“The same principle applies to missionaries, whom the Master called ‘fishers of men.’ A missionary’s line should drop into the fishing water the moment he or she leaves the apartment”
I love this quote. It makes me have a deep desire to be sure to use my time here wisely. And it is a good lesson for life outside of the mission. Are we finding success in what we spend our time on? If not, we may need to reevaluate and decide if what we are doing is the most important, and if what we are doing is being done with real intent.
I know Christ lives and stands at the helm! He loves us!
